western Sydney Train Commuters
Wednesday 2 August 2006
SIX MONTHS OF SLIDING SERVICE FOR WESTERN SYDNEY TRAIN COMMUTERS
Shadow Minister for Transport Barry O’Farrell and Liberal Candidate for Parramatta John Chedid said today train commuters in Western Sydney had suffered declining on-time running during the first six months of 2006.
“On-time running has gotten worse every month for the past six months on the western line,” Mr O’Farrell said.
“It is extraordinary that despite a new timetable with fewer, slower trains, and changing the definition of a late train, commuters still don’t reach their destination on-time,” he said.
“Labor slashed 270 services a day from the rail network, and those remaining trains continue to run late on the western line.
“Following the recent fare hike, train commuters are now paying more for a service that is getting worse,” Mr O’Farrell said.

Liberal Candidate for Parramatta John Chedid said local commuters were being denied valuable family time because trains were consistently late in the evening peak.
“Trains on the western line have failed to meet on-time running targets in the PM peak for 38 of the 47 weeks since the new timetable,” Mr Chedid said.
“Despite being promised a ‘more reliable train network’, Parramatta commuters continue to suffer a substandard rail service.
“Commuters in Parramatta deserve better train services,” Mr Chedid said. |
